Falling drones injure man during Folly Beach New Years display [Video]

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCSC) – Authorities on Folly Beach say the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified about drones falling from the sky during Tuesday night’s inaugural Folly Beach New Year’s Eve drone show.

One man was struck by one of the drones and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Folly Beach Police Sgt. Zach Halpern said. He was treated at the scene by Folly Beach Fire Rescue.

The drone show started at 7 p.m. at 97 Center Street in Folly Beach, but approximately three minutes into the show, spectators began to shout to police officers that drones were falling, according to a press release from the City of Folly Beach Department of Public Safety.

The drones fell for approximately 30 seconds at which point all remaining drones started “a controlled descent” to the designated landing zone, Halpern said.
