Fact Finders: Taking a closer look at TikTok legal advice [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) — Videos are floating around TikTok, showing people how to react during a traffic stop. That prompted this question to a local police department. I’ve been seeing videos of people pulled over refusing to roll the window down and not giving their ID. They say by state law, they don’t have to comply.

Videos from people calling themselves First Amendment Auditors are gaining traction on social media. Some advise you what to do in a traffic stop.

“These things have been litigated for years,” explained Marionville and Aurora Police Chief Wes Coatney. “And so there are volumes written about these topics. So, trying to fit it into, you know, a few paragraphs can be challenging.”

But we’re going to try anyway. You do need to show the officer your driver’s license and proof of insurance. Some of these videos say you don’t have to roll down your window and hand those things to the officer.
