O’NEILL, Neb. (KSNB) – First responders are still on the scene following an apparent explosion that rocked the small community of O’Neill early Monday morning.
The explosion occurred shortly before 6 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church Parish Center, a two-story dormitory-style building on the northwest corner of the school’s property, near Avera St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Video footage shared by KBRX Radio shows firefighters battling towering flames as high as 50 to 60 feet at the parish center.
Amy Weindel, with the Archdiocese of Omaha, said the center was severely damaged but there is no indication of foul play. In a statement posted on its Facebook page, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church expressed gratitude that no one was inside the building when the explosion occurred.
