Experts stopped cybersecurity attack on Georgia voter website [Video]

ATLANTA — The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office was able to stop a cybersecurity attack that was aimed at taking down the state’s absentee voter website.

A spokesperson for the Secretary of State’s Office confirmed the situation, but didn’t provide specific details about what happened.

CNN reported the attempted attack was specifically aimed at knocking down the absentee ballot website, but Georgia’s cyber defenses stopped the attack, and there was no disruption to the state’s voter website or the voters’ ability to request absentee ballots. 

The news outlet reported Gabriel Sterling, the COO for the Georgia Secretary of State Office, said systems were slowed down but they never stopped working. He also mentioned the situation in a social media post.

“We are proud of the team (Georgia Secretary of State Brad) Raffensperger has put together,” Sterling said in a social media post. …
