(FOX40.COM) — After a shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania that is being investigated as an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, a retired FBI agent and expert on active shooter preparedness spoke with FOX40.com about what it takes to secure large events.
“There’s an extraordinary amount of planning, coordination and resources that go into planning for a significant special event like this,” Glenn Norling said, referring to the different federal agencies that coordinate with local law enforcement.
“…One of the biggest challenges is establishing those communication pathways between agencies so you can receive information, you can share that information and be able to react quickly,” Norling added.
Norling also said a major challenge is having a detailed plan that covers all possible angles, but there will often be a minor weakness in the plan that is difficult to spot beforehand and that can lead to a dangerous consequence.
