Evacuation orders for Rodney and Smithland, Iowa communities due to levee break on Little Sioux River [Video]

RODNEY, Iowa – An evacuation order is in effect for two Iowa communities due to a levee break on the Little Sioux River.

Emergency personnel are evacuating the town of Rodney, Iowa due to expected flooding. Woodbury County Emergency Management is also evacuating the town of Smithland as a precaution.

An emergency shelter is being set up at Onawa Community Center, 320 10th Street.

Monona County Emergency Manager Patrick Prorok said as soon as officials were aware that water had breached the levee they activated the emergency sirens and began to go door to door to inform residents in Rodney.

Highway 141 is closed, and officials warn that only residents and officials should enter the towns of Rodeny, Smithland and others facing floodwater danger.
