Election officials focus in on election security and integrity [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (KOLN) – With the Nov. 5 election just around the corner, election officials across the region flocked to Omaha to discuss how they’re keeping their state’s elections safe.

Secretaries of State from Nebraska, Missouri, South Dakota and Iowa met on the University of Nebraska – Omaha campus on Wednesday, speaking about their roles in the upcoming election.

“We are the linesmen in the football game that no one notices,” Jay Ashcroft, the Missouri Secretary of State, said. “We call it as it is.”

The state leaders joined Jen Easterly, the national director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center Director Gina Ligon. They ran through the stumbling blocks on the path to a fair election.

“There are cyber threats like ransomware, physical threats to election officials and polling places and the very real threat of foreign, malign adversaries,” Easterly said. …
