Educators Address Literacy Issues [Video]

MONROE, La. (KNOE) –

A back-to-school networking event hosted by Sothern Charm in Monroe had educators from all backgrounds gather to discuss important topics involving education.

One of those topics was literacy. According to the Louisiana department of Education, 55% of K-3rd graders are below their reading level.

This alarming statistic has both lawmakers and educators stepping up.

“So literacy is our primary focus because we realize looking at our data that literacy is the key to improving our test scores and putting our kids in a better position to be successful academically.” Says Monroe City Schools Superintendent Sam Moore.
