MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) is one step closer to building a new school.
Last week, the Shelby County Commission’s budget and finance committee voted unanimously to approve giving MSCS an additional $33.9 million to build Frayser High School.
This vote still needs to go to the full commission on Monday, but the committee voted to approve this funding with a positive recommendation.
There was a panel that spoke with the committee on Wednesday.
Several community leaders and school board members spoke about the need for a new high school.
“It takes whatever it takes,” said MSCS Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins. “And if that is coming down again, and if we have to come down again on Monday to ensure that what we heard is actually the reality of the vote, then we will do that as well. There is nothing we are not willing to do for our youngest leaders.”
