The following is an NBC5 Editorial featuring General Manager Ryan Rothstein speaking on behalf of the editorial board.A recent report named two Chittenden county cities among the safest in the country.South Burlington topped the list at number one, while Burlington ranked as number 4. Some factors included in that decision include home and community safety, environmental risk, and financial security.Many community members thought South Burlington in the number one spot made sense, but were quite surprised to see Burlington ranked number four. That ranking comes in the wake of a shooting on Church Street in August, as well as a police investigation into a group of young people assaulting others downtown, as well as continued retail theft issues.The Burlington Police Department said they are addressing more incidents than at any other point in the last five years, and as of mid-August they reported just under 19,000 calls for service in …
