High-ranking Edinburg CISD employee, Rahman Matar, has been arrested on charges of harassment, adding to the growing list of misconduct allegations within the education system.
Matar, 55, who serves as the principal of Economy High School, turned himself into authorities after a continued investigation that started in August. He has been charged with harassment and is currently on a $10,000 bond.
According to police reports, the victim claimed to have received harassing text messages in a group chat that included other Edinburg CISD employees. The messages were sent using a mobile app designed to hide the sender’s identity, making it challenging for the victim to identify the harasser.
In response to the allegations, Edinburg CISD stated, “The district does not comment on active criminal investigations or personnel matters.” As the legal proceedings continue, the district’s handling of the situation is under scrutiny.
