HALEIWA, Hawaii (Island News) — A yellow alert was issued for the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational with a possible run this Sunday.
The 2024-2025 Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational will take place if surf consistently reaches 40 feet between Dec. 14, 2024 to March 13, 2025. After officials changed the status to “yellow” today, the Waimea Bay competition could possibly begin on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Liam Mcnamara, the contest director of the iconic Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational, shared his thoughts on the likelihood of the surfing competition taking place this weekend with the right wave conditions.
The surf competition is based on a three-colored code alert system. A green alert means the Eddie is a go and will happen in two to three days. …
