ECG Cuts Meter Procurement Costs by 50% Through Local Partnerships [Video]

Samuel Mahama, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has announced a significant reduction in the company’s expenditure on meter procurement, achieving nearly a 50% decrease in recent months.

This cost-saving measure follows the ECG board’s decision to prioritize local manufacturers for the supply of meters.

During an interview on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday, September 11, Mahama highlighted that ECG is now engaging with six local firms to supply meters.

He emphasized that these firms are not merely assembling meters but are involved in manufacturing processes integrating components from various sources.

Mahama explained the strategic shift: “Some people say they are assembling plants.

But, I call it manufacturing because nowhere in this world are you saying somebody is manufacturing something from scratch anymore. All components come from other parts.”
