East Peoria eyes prime riverfront property for new hotel [Video]

EAST PEORIA (25News Now) – Downtown East Peoria has gained a couple of new developments over the past year, such as The Putt Club and Blutowne Apartments, and city leaders believe a new hotel will only add to the increased activity.

The City Council is considering building a nearly $20 million Hampton Inn on the west side of the Bob Michel Bridge off Conference Center Drive.

Planning and Community Development Director Ty Livingston said the lot has been empty for years, even after receiving several proposals. Now, council members seem supportive of this plan.

“It’s kind of our last piece of really prime real estate right on the riverfront. We’re looking to further complement what’s going on in the Levee District, and to bring people here and to have them stay here,” Livingston said.
