MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Distinguished Young Women participants from all 50 states arrived in the Port City Tuesday night at the Mobile Regional Airport.
The women are in town for the 67th annual national finals of the scholarship competition. The three-night event kicks off at the Mobile Civic Center Theater starting June 27.
While they are here, they will compete in several categories ranging from scholastics to self-expression.
Winners will receive their share of more than $150,000 in scholarships.
The young women will participate are in a number of activities:
- Thursday, 10:15 a.m., Bellingrath Gardens
- Friday, 5:30 p.m., USS Alabama Battleship party
- Saturday, 9:30 a.m., Piggly Wiggly community event
- June 24, noon, Annual Wintzell’s oyster eating contest
- June 26, 6 p.m., Community night and parade
- June 27, 7 p.m., first preliminary round
- June 28, 7 p.m., second preliminary round
- June 29, 7 p.m., final round
