Dubuque City Council to weigh Central Avenue revitalization options following public feedback [Video]

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – Dubuque city leaders are considering ways to reimagine a key downtown corridor, aimed at making it a destination.

More than 23,000 people navigate the Central Avenue and White Street corridor every day. The 44-block stretch of one-way roads run north-south through downtown Dubuque.

In April, the Dubuque City Council kicked off a study to analyze and evaluate possible alternatives to the corridor, including getting around 1,000 responses from the public on how to improve the area. Common responses included wider sidewalks, maximized parking, and more bike amenities.

On Monday, community development company Bolton & Menk presented the city council with a few options for making those improvements. The alternatives feature converting the streets from one-way to two-way, removing parking from one side of the street for wider lanes and sidewalks, adding bike lanes, and more.
