The department store near the Golden 1 Center could close as soon as next year.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Macy’s in DOCO could close next year as part of a nationwide reshuffling of stores by the company.
Macy’s Inc. is currently evaluating the location’s potential real estate value. If the store were to close, the soonest it would be is 2025.
According to a Macy’s spokesperson, the potential shutdown would be due to Macy’s focusing more on smaller storefronts.
“Our new strategy is designed to create a more modern Macy’s, Inc. and enhance the customer experience. We intend to close approximately 150 Macy’s stores while further investing in our 350 go-forward fleet over the next three years,” said a spokesperson.
No final decision on the fate of the DOCO store has been made yet.
Meanwhile, Macy’s is set to open a new location at Elk Grove’s Laguna Crossroads shopping center, according to Gallelli Real Estate’s recent reports.
