OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — Opelousas is one of only 24 communities in the state to be called a Main Street America Accredited program in 2024, a bonus in the city’s continuing efforts to revitalize downtown.
Earning the title of an accredited Main Street America program means the city has met the performance standards regarding preservation-based economic development and community revitalization. It also means the city has the opportunity to work with Louisiana Main Street and Main Street America.
“All these partners are really coming together. We’re seeing them come together even more to really tackle the downtown revitalization efforts,” said Melanie LeBouef, Director of Opelousas Tourism and Main Street.
Opelousas joins 1,600 other downtowns across the country that emphasize revitalizing historic buildings and new businesses.
