The Middlesboro mayor said all affected people are welcome at the centers until the power is officially restored.

MIDDLESBORO, Ky. — A fire in Middlesboro led to a partial building collapse in the downtown area, resulting in hundreds of people losing power during near-freezing temperatures. 

According to Middlesboro Mayor Boone L. Bowling, the area was closed off and the road downtown is closed to all traffic due to safety concerns. He also said there were 239 customers without power Tuesday evening due to the fire. 

Middlesboro will be opening the community center as a warming center for those in need, with the center set to open at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

The mayor said all affected individuals are welcome until the power is officially restored.
