Dorchester County leaders urge patience through continuing flooding conditions [Video]

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Dorchester County leaders held a briefing Sunday afternoon to provide an update on the county’s efforts to handle ongoing flooding from Tropical Storm Debby.

One of the common themes during that briefing, held Sunday afternoon from the Dorchester County Emergency Operations Center in Summerville, was patience.

Dorchester County Emergency Management Director Thomas McNeal said the storm caused widespread flooding, particularly along the county’s rivers.

“The Ashley River has risen to 25.31 feet and the Edisto River reached 17.21 feet overnight,” he said. “These levels are well above normal and continue to pose a serious risk to our communities.”

He said the county remains under the risk of “torrential downpours” associated with thunderstorms expected to move into the area.

The county’s Emergency Operations Center went active last Sunday is still coordinating efforts across all departments to ensure safety, he said.
