Donkey From Shrek Is Dead, Or At Least The Real Life Inspiration For Him Is [Video]

It is a sad day for anyone with a heart, as the real-life inspiration behind Donkey from Shrek, Perry, has passed away.

The news was broken by Baron Park Donkeys, who cared for Perry, and reported by Palo Alto Online.

Baron Park Donkeys takes care of Palo Alto’s donkeys, who are local legends in the community in California. Perry was one of them, and famously was the model for Donkey from Shrek. So if you love Donkey, you’d have loved Perry.

In the Instagram post announcing Perry’s death, Baron Park Donkeys wrote, “We are heartbroken to share that our beloved Barron Park donkey, Perry, passed away yesterday at the age of 30. He was a beloved member of our community and we know many people will be touched by his passing. Memorial plans will be announced soon.”

He had lived from June 1994 to January 2, 2025.
