TOLEDO, Ohio — A new food truck is coming to Toledo with the aim of helping people across the community.
Cherry Street Mission Ministries announced in a press release Thursday the introduction of Second Helping Food Truck, a way to bring meals to those in need in the area. It will also provide career training opportunities to those staffing the truck.
The initiative, which Cherry Street organizers said they hope will address food insecurity in northwest Ohio neighborhoods, will operate on a “pay it forward model”. That is, payment for meals will be donation-based. Efforts to bring meals to the community will focus specifically on food deserts in the area, Cherry Street said.
The food truck will also serve to train culinary students, according to the press release. Students in the truck will receive compensation, learn working skills and gain experience.
