MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Department of Justice says the Memphis Police Department has been using unconstitutional practices in its policing.
That finding from the U.S. Department of Justice was announced Wednesday night after a 17-month pattern and practice investigation triggered by the death of Tyre Nichols.
The results released by the DOJ paint a problematic picture of the city’s police force.
The DOJ said Memphis Police discriminate against Black people and those with mental health problems, and federal investigators have serious concerns about how MPD treats children.
