Nearly 85 animals from a Lancaster animal shelter were aboard an emergency rescue flight to the Best Friends Animal Society Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.

On Saturday afternoon, 58 cats and 26 dogs from the Los Angeles County Animal Shelter in Lancaster were taken to the Hollywood Burbank Airport where Wings of Rescue transported the animals to the Utah-based animal sanctuary, according to a press release
Officials said the goal is to reduce overcrowding and “free up space and resources” in shelters impacted by the wildfires in Southern California.
On Sunday, Wings of Rescue will transport more pets from Hollywood Burbank Airport to Seattle, Washington.
Officials said the flights are partially supported by a donation from the Cencora Impact Fund.
