Doctors at Children’s Wisconsin report gunshot wounds, suicide attempts up [Video]

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Mandy Cohen was in Milwaukee Wednesday, discussing the crisis of youth gun violence. From January through August of this year, doctors at Children’s Wisconsin treated 89 gunshot wound victims under the age of 19. Cohen toured the Children’s Wisconsin emergency department and saw a suicide screening tool the hospital uses. “They are screening kids for risk of suicide and, if they have that risk, for them about access to lethal means — things like guns or even medicines that could potentially be harmful. It’s really great work,” said Cohen. “And the overarching theme, what I heard, was collaboration — great collaboration.
