District voters pass referendum for new schools [Video]

Voters passed a referendum Tuesday night for a new school in Spartanburg County District 7. Voters decided to approve a multimillion-dollar referendum to build a new Jesse Boyd Elementary School and a new addition at Mary H. Wright Elementary School. There will be a new Jesse Boyd Elementary School built on Webber Road at the former McCracken Middle School.The cost of the new building is about $55 million and is estimated to be about 125,000 square feet.The plan also includes a $4.5 million addition to Mary H. Wright Elementary.To help retain and recruit more teachers, Superintendent Jeff Stevens said they’ll be dedicating classrooms for employee child care at both schools.In a statement, Stevens said “Today, residents of District 7 chose to create a brighter future for students, teachers, staff, and families.
