Vietnam veteran John Kriel usually gets his Novolin 70/30 FlexPen insulin to manage his Type 2 diabetes from the Milwaukee Veterans Affairs Hospital, but his wife said this month’s supply never came. “I called the pharmacist at the VA, and she looked it up, and she said ‘it’s on back order,'” his wife Nancy Kriel told WISN 12 News Monday. Turns out, they are not alone. A shortage of the specific insulin pen manufactured by Novo Nordisk is hitting pharmacies all over the country. “Fortunately, we have a little supply that will take us probably two weeks maybe, three weeks,” Nancy Kriel said. “What happens come two to three weeks from now, and you’re not able to find that pen?” WISN 12 News reporter Hannah Hilyard asked. “I’m not sure,” she responded.
