Navigating Life with Diabetes Since Childhood
Diabetes was a part of Kiara’s life from her earliest memories, shaping her experiences in school and at home. Reflecting on her early years, she describes feelings of isolation and the bullying she endured due to misconceptions about her condition. “It was a lonely and isolating experience,” she shares. “My extended family, too, were sometimes insensitive. I attribute this largely to the lack of awareness about diabetes and the various ways it impacts those who are afflicted by it.”
Through all the ups and downs, Kiara’s parents remained her unwavering support system. From homeschooling to support her demanding badminton schedule to encouraging her career in sports broadcasting, they stood by her side. Their commitment helped Kiara see that life with diabetes is not limited but rather an opportunity to push past boundaries.
