Developer Premier Construction wants to build 10 townhomes, each with three bedrooms.
DES MOINES, Iowa — A townhome development project is capturing quite a bit of attention on the west side of Des Moines. So far, a petition to reject rezoning for the project has already reached 583 signatures.
10 townhomes are set to go up between the Waterbury and Westwood neighborhoods off of Grand Avenue. Now, the neighborhoods are full of “vote no to rezone” yard signs.
Developer Adam Sieren with Premier Construction is trying to tear down a two-story home that is in disrepair before construction begins. The townhomes are set to have three bedrooms each and cost somewhere around $500,000 each.
“This development is needed all through Des Moines,” Sieren said. “I mean we’re losing people to West Des Moines and the surrounding suburbs because of a lack of housing.”
But neighbors worry how it’ll affect their property taxes.
