WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Dowling Catholic students, staff and alumni are mourning the loss of the school’s longtime sports announcer, Dennis O’Grady.
O’Grady passed away on Dec. 8 following a battle with lung cancer, according to a verified GoFundMe created in his honor earlier this year. He was 76-years-old.
“We offer our prayers and deepest condolences to his family and friends,” the school said in a Facebook post. “He will be greatly missed by everyone in the DCHS community.”
O’Grady graduated from Dowling in 1967 and later returned to volunteer at his alma mater, where he served as the “Voice of the Maroons” for twenty years.
After graduating from Dowling, O’Grady attended St. Thomas University before beginning his 30-year career at the Carroll Times-Herald, according to his GoFundMe.
