Decorah voters asked to approve bond for new elementary school [Video]

DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG) – Decorah Community School District is asking voters to pass a $38 million bond to build a new elementary school. This would replace John Cline Elementary School and West Side Early Childhood Center.

Both buildings are outdated. John Cline opened in 1964 and West Side opened in 1939.

The district posted a video of a virtual tour of John Cline highlighting the issues the building has.

Former teacher Judy Moen used to teach in a John Cline classroom. She hosted the virtual tour.

She said one of the problems with the building was its tendency to overheat.

“I was in this room for 17 years, and it is not a healthy room for anybody. It is about 85, 90 degrees right now in this room,” Moen said in the video.

Superintendent Tim Cronin said the building traps so much heat because of previous additions to the school building.
