Deadline for Mayor to pick Board of Ed is fast approaching [Video]

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Mayor Brandon Johnson recently appointed Sean Harden, a consulting firm executive and former Chicago Public Schools employee to the board.

He called Harden a “proven leader with a bold vision for what education can achieve”. Harden worked for CPS from 2009 to 2011 as Deputy CEO of Community Affairs.

Johnson discussed the importance of the Board of Education.

“My decision to appoint members to the Board of Education are strictly tethered to my vision for our public schools,” Johnson said.

“And my vision for public schools is that every single child in this city has an opportunity to go to a fully funded well resourced public neighborhood school. That’s the goal.”

Chicago residents in November elected 10 members who will be sworn in next month.

“This board will deliver on behalf of the people of Chicago. Not any one special interest group.”

Johnson must appoint 11 members of his own by Monday.
