Deadline extended for Summerville North Main Street redevelopment plans [Video]

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) – Plans to redevelop one of the largest tracts of land in downtown Summerville are still not approved though the effort has been underway for years now.

The 5.3 acres on 500 North Main Street is zoned as downtown mixed-use, which permits housing, offices, retail and lodging and Dorchester County wants to optimize its potential.

Summerville’s Board of Architectural Review has been cautious to say yes to what developers have presented.

“We’re on a journey, these development projects especially on sensitive sites, which the firming company is very used to working on, both historic and community sensitive properties they take a long time but it’s worth it to get it right,” Vice President of The Furman Developing Company Robert Poppleton said.

The deadline for the board to approve any plans has been extended to June 30.
