DC attorney general campaign uses influencers to curb youth violence [Video]

The DC Office of the Attorney General’s program tries to reach kids where they are–on social media.

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Brian Schwalb is taking aim at youth crime through a new digital campaign that uses social media influencers to discuss alternatives to violence in an effort to steer young people towards a better path for themselves. 

Shwalb’s office says the campaign titled FutureMeDC uses hyper-local DC influencers to share their stories on social media about how they overcame personal obstacles and pressure from peers to avoid engaging in dangerous behavior. 

Among those sharing their stories is Southeast D.C. based rapper Lightshow. Born Larinzo Lambright Williams, the Congress Heights native with nearly 110,000 followers on Instragram, posted a video on the social media platform with the caption, “Every choice you make today builds the future you want tomorrow.
