LIMESTONE, Tenn. (WJHL) — Crews working at David Crockett Birthplace State Park have finished demolishing the park’s pool, the first step toward building a new playscape at the location.

The pool was closed in 2021 along with several other state-owned pools, which the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) blamed on rising upkeep costs and declining usage by community members.

TDEC leaders previously told News Channel 11 that the playscape’s construction would follow the natural landscape and provide an educational, hands-on experience for children at the park.

A TDEC spokesperson said Monday that Sparkman & Associates was selected as the designer of record at the State Building Commission’s Executive Sub Committee meeting this month.

Construction on the playscape is expected to begin soon.
