“A big part of why I wanted to do this was to have events, show films, and play music,” said Dane Reynolds, in our nine minute mini-doco on Chapter 11’s first surf shop. “I want to bring a cultural aspect to the surf community here. Hopefully it becomes sort of a cultural pillar for surfing in Ventura.”
Wandering into the humble storefront on any given day, patrons can expect to be bashfully greeted by one of the most influential, recognizable surfers of all time. Dane Reynolds, a man who single-handedly transformed the clothing, playlists, and taste of an entire generation, often spends his days clerking behind the register, screenprinting tees and selling Former + Ch11 merch.
Less than a year out from that initial film, the Chapter 11 team have just moved down the block to a slightly larger spot at 83 S Palm Street — partially funded with Jake Kelleys S.U.R.F. winnings.
