LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The City of Mt. Washington Police found its new police chief.
Following the removal of former Chief Marcus Laytham in June, Dan Kelty took over as interim chief. Last week, the city approved Kelty to serve in that role permanently. He was sworn in Friday.
Kelty has worked for the Mt. Washington Police Department for 13 years. He has served as a detective and assistant chief and has lived in the community for the past 38 years.
Laytham was fired as chief at the end of June with few details. According to a statement from Mayor Stuart Owen, Laytham was notified on June 25 “of his removal as Police Chief and as a member of the Mt. Washington Police Department effective June 30, 2024.”
The statement from Owen said in part that the city has chosen not to renew the chief’s contract for employment.
