Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia retiring to take job in Austin: ‘Unfortunately, you cannot keep secrets’ [Video]

DALLASDallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia will be retiring and taking a new job with the city of Austin just four months after recommitting himself to serving Dallas.

Austin city officials first made the news public in a Thursday city memo saying that Garcia would be their new assistant city manager overseeing public safety.

The news was quickly picked up by Dallas news outlets. By Thursday afternoon, the chief confirmed the multiple reports, saying this was not the way he intended his announcement to come out.

A news release from Austin city manager T.C. Broadnax says that Garcia will take over the role in Austin on Nov. 4, 2024.
