Having just won an enormous majority, you might expect Labour MPs to be pulling determinedly in the same direction to implement their political agenda.

Instead, the first cracks are already appearing in party unity.

On the election trail, Sir Keir Starmer assured voters he would not break the bank with a splurge of reckless spending.

He pledged to protect the nation’s finances by sticking to strict fiscal restraints.

The problem is many Labour MPs care little for such responsibility – they just want to raid the public purse.
