Crisis consultant hired to manage St. Helens sex abuse scandal resigns amid his own felony conviction [Video]

ST. HELENS Ore. (KPTV) – After the arrest of one former and one current teacher in St Helens, the district brought in a crisis communications consultant to help manage the fallout.

Thomas DeLapp has been working in the industry for decades and was once referred to as the “Godfather of School PR.”

But while he came in to help the district deal with criminal chaos, he was working through legal troubles of his own.

DeLapp was convicted of felony embezzlement in Placer County, California in July. He is currently on two years of probation and has been ordered to pay victim restitution in the amount of $64,000 by next July. If he doesn’t he will face 265 days in jail.

“It was a lapse of judgment,” said DeLapp when reached by phone.
