Officials in Ipswich are extending the restriction on swimming at Crane Beach through October due to the recent shark sightings.According to The Trustees, the group that oversees Crane Beach, the most recent shark sighting occurred on Monday while the Ipswich Harbormaster was on patrol in the area. “We decided after consulting with our experts to keep the beach closed to swimming through October,” Mary Dettloff said in a statement.Ipswich Police will also be back at the beach on Wednesday to continue checking the waters after they also reported a shark sighting using the department’s drone on Monday. “We will probably want to string together a series of days without seeing a shark before we would consider lifting the ban,” Ipswich Police Chief Paul Nikas said. “We are also concerned with dog walkers tossing balls or sticks into the surf for their dogs.”October 1 generally marks the end of the shorebird …
