NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – In an effort to make sure the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission has adequate renovation funding; City Council President Helena Moreno proposed setting aside $100 million in bond funds.
In a letter sent to NORDC and public works officials on Dec. 19, Moreno proposed investing in the city’s families.
Moreno wrote, “Data consistently shows that parks and recreation play a vital role in enhancing community engagement, reducing crime, and improving mental and physical health.”

Moreno hopes to hear NORDC’s bond proposals in the new year, with the expectation of putting the bonds up for a vote in the spring election cycle.
Her letter comes days after FOX 8 reported that multiple NORDC-run parks and playgrounds were in poor condition with broken equipment and trash.
