Cops and pups: A unique adoption initiative re-launches in Wausau [Video]

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Marathon County Humane Society has re-launched its “Adopt with a Cop” photo shoot series in collaboration with the Wausau Police Department, blending the worlds of law enforcement and pet adoption.

The photo shoots allow officers to pose with adoptable animals, with images later shared on the organization’s social media platforms.

“My hope for those pictures is that it causes you to take a minute to think of both of the things in that picture differently, the officer and the pet,” Marathon County Humane Society Executive Director Lisa Leitermann said.

“There are opportunities that maybe humanize our officers more. It highlights, not only adoptable pets who deserve homes, it also helps our community get to know our officers as people,” Capt. Nathan Cihlar of the Wausau Police Department said.
