Cookies delivered to Idaho prison inmates for Christmas [Video]

St. Vincent de Paul delivered cookies to prison inmates across Idaho. This year they distributed nearly a quarter of a million cookies to show community support.

KUNA, Idaho — What began as a gesture of kindness for inmates in one prison 25 years ago, has grown into a tradition of spreading holiday cheer at multiple prisons in the state.

The initiative started as Cookies for Max more than two decades ago but eventually became Cookies for Corrections over the years.

Thirteen years ago, the program was revitalized under the leadership of Renick, who is also a former inmate and previously on the receiving end of the cookies during his time in prison.

“We got to get people from the community to go in and actually walk through see these residents as just normal people,” said Renick. “They’re real human beings.”
