Controversy surrounding new cash-free policy at the Dothan Civic Center [Video]

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – This summer, the Dothan Civic Center is going cash-free, and that change is already receiving mixed reviews.

Starting June 1, if you are buying anything at the Dothan Civic Center, you can only use a major credit or debit card, or mobile payment services like Apple Pay or Google Pay.

The reason, according to the civic center leadership, is for things to move faster and smoother.

As word got around, those on social media made their voices heard, including in our News4 Facebook comments as people weighed in on the change.

Some people are in total support of the transition, noting many venues in other areas are this way.

One Facebook viewer commented, “Finally, I love just doing the tap or Apple Pay. I can’t keep up with change and coins. This is great.”

However, others are not so supportive of the change.

One person recounted a recent experience at the Dothan Civic Center as a red flag for what could be coming going forward.
