Controversial Stand with Women Act introduced, protesters asked to leave Capitol [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The vaulted halls of Nebraska’s Capitol were filled with chanting protesters who left a small path through their forest of placards.

“Shame on you, senator,” one protester shouted as a state lawmaker passed.

Rounding the corner into Gov. Jim Pillen’s hearing room, more than dozen senators filed into a packed Friday morning press conference—announcing LB 89, the “Stand With Women Act.”

“We’re here to be talking about protecting school age girls and women in female spaces,” Pillen said. “The ‘Stand with Women Act’ is legislation that builds upon my executive order last year, establishing a women’s Bill of Rights.”

Pillen made a detour in his remarks at one point as the shouting echoed in the hallway.

“I will tell you that if anybody disrupts in this press conference like that, we have plenty of security,” he said. “You’ll be taken out immediately.
