Congress passes funding bill, averts shutdown, aids Georgia communities [Video]

A new funding measure averts a government shutdown and includes $700 million for Georgia communities recovering from recent storms.

ATLANTA — A bill expected to provide critical disaster relief and support for farmers in Georgia was passed in the middle of Friday night, according to Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock, which prevented a movement shutdown and provided funding for additional months. 

In a press conference with the senator, he said the bipartisan bill includes $100 billion in disaster assistance for communities affected by Hurricane Helene and other recent storms, with Georgia receiving significant allocations. Key beneficiaries include the state’s pecan, cotton, poultry, and timber industries. Additionally, $10 billion in economic aid will support commodity farmers facing challenges from inflation and stalled Farm Bill negotiations.
