Community rallies for Taylor Mill fire chief in fundraising effort amid cancer battle [Video]

TAYLOR MILL, Ky (WXIX) -Firefighters from Boone County came together Saturday to raise money for the Taylor Mill fire chief, who is battling cancer for the second time.

The event, Dine & Donate, took place at Lucky Duck Pub in Burlington, where dozens of firefighters gathered to show their support for Chief General Fernbach as he fights against glioblastoma, a type of cancer that begins in the brain or spinal cord.

Ten percent of the food sales, in addition to the funds generated from the raffle, were donated to the family of Chief Fernbach.

Taylor Mill firefighters Rodney McKibben and Bryan Lynch say they are not surprised by the outpouring of love and support for Chief Fernbach, who has spent nearly 20 years serving the community.

“He’s a real down-to-earth guy, and he’s a real, wholesome guy. He’s probably a little embarrassed of all the attention he’s getting,” Lynch said.
