Community rallies for gun reform following Antioch High School tragedy [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A coalition of gun violence prevention organizations gathered for a press conference Friday, responding to the lives lost in the Antioch High School shooting.

The shooting in the high school’s cafeteria killed 16-year-old Josselin Corea Escalante and injured two others. The suspect, Solomon Henderson, 17, turned the gun on himself after the shooting. 

Representatives from local advocacy groups expressed their frustration with state leaders and their response to gun violence. They addressed the impact of the shooting, the growing concerns around gun violence in schools and potential steps forward to ensure safety for students, educators and communities.

Melissa Alvarez, spokesperson for the Tennessee Hispanic Action Network, spoke on the community coming together and turning their pain into action.
