Community rallies for Army veteran with Fulton Co. roots who died in helicopter crash [Video]

FORT NOVOSEL, AL (25News Now) – The family of an Army veteran with Fulton County roots is receiving support after a deadly helicopter crash.

46-year-old Daniel Munger died while teaching a flight student at Fort Novosel Army Base in Alabama on Aug. 7, according to the Dale County, Alabama coroner. The helicopter crashed on the base.

Munger served his country for 27 and one-half years. He grew up in Dunfermline, Illinois, and graduated from Lewistown High School in 1994. Then, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Munger, a retired Chief Warrant 3 for the U.S. Army, was stationed in several countries, including Egypt, Afghanistan, and Korea.

He retired from the army two years ago and served as a civilian contracted flight instructor.

When his Jennifer Munger heard the news, she rushed to Alabama.
